Kicking The Curve
What a day!
Recently we hosted 'Kicking the Curve' - an event to help raise fuds and generate awareness about mental health, supporting the Mental Health Foundation. Sponsors promised funds based on how many penalties our teams could scoe in the day, and the club certainly rised to the occasion with some amazing performaces. The record team managed 600 penalties in their 30 minute slot - that's one goal scored every 3 seconds...
The whole event was a huge success and we reached our target of 10,000 penalties successfully scored on the day, and also managed to play a 10 hour long game of 'continuous 7-a-side football' which ended with a score of 113-107. Phew!
We are still buzzing from what we achieved as a community and club.
We were honoured and delighted to be Visited by Danny Hay and Darren Beazley representing the All Whites and NZ Football, and by current U20 All Whites keeper who I think conceded more goals in 5 minutes between the sticks with us than in an entire season nornally - but all for a very good cause.
But the biggest thanks has to go to our sponsors that really made a lot of this possible and who have suported the caise with thousands of dollars - over $6,000 at the final count.
Massive WCR thank-you's to: Central Landscape & Garden Supplies Swanson, New World Kumeu, Atlas Concrete Kumeu, Anna and Bruce - Real Estate , G.J. Gardner Homes NZ and Fit Factory Kumeu from the club and the community - you guys are awesome.
Special shout out too to the crew from Kumeu Volunteer Fire Brigade for not only turning out but playing the continuous football game in full uniform. It was a hot old day and that must have been pretty tough mahi!
